Meeting with USSR President Michael Gorbachev on the occasion of memorial in honor of his late wife, Raisa Gorbacheva, who supported the "International Association of Hematologists of the World for Children", where Slavin was also involved.

This was the first patient in the word cured Slavin’s team by the first successful gene therapy procedure developed by Slavin for cure of otherwise lethal disease, severe combined immune deficiency (SCID), caused by inborn deficiency of an essential enzyme needed for development of T lymphocytes, called adenosine deaminase (ADA). The infant was treated in 2002 and was immediately cured with full development of normal immune system and never saw a doctor since then. Many other children with the same disease and also similar genetic disorders were cured since then using the same approach pioneered by Prof. Slavin.

This is a report about 5 million US dollars donation of Baxter International, one of the world’s largest Healthcare Companies based in Chicago, USA, in support of supported of Slavin’s successful pioneering work in anti-cancer immunotherapy that resulted in development of new treatment strategies for treatment of hematologic malignancies and other many otherwise incurable diseases treatable by stem cells and/or activated lymphocytes.

Prof. Slavin was invited to Monaco to present his new approaches for anti-cancer immunotherapy. The invitation was made by Dr Michael McNamara, the Medical Director of the Monte-Carlo LifeCheck (MCLC) Center, and Mr Philip Green, a London billionaire who lives part-time in Monaco in order to consider clinical application of innovative technologies for the treatment of cancer in Monaco. When Prof. Slavin was introduced to Prince Albert of Monaco a day before the official lecture, he was so excited and insisted to introduce Prof. Slavin and present him at the opening of his lecture in front of all the medical professionals and a packed auditorium of all the movers and shakers in Monaco. At the end of Slavin’s two successive lectures, Prince Albert announced publicly his desire to establish a Research Medical Center and to invest in the development and clinical application of Slavin’s technologies in Monaco. This appeared on the front page of the local newspaper.
